...with a day before the opening salvo of the Major League Baseball season, I get to see my New York Mets in their spring finale against the team soon to go 28-134, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays!

Spring is here...sort of...I mean it was 92 degrees yesterday, so in Florida terms, spring is technically gone.

But to hell with it. Go Mets!

...Much applause to Bill Maher who pretty much goes postal on the Bush administration for their very unpatriotic involvement in blowing the cover of one of the troops they claim to support, former CIA agent Valerie Plame. This is a Grade-A smackdown.

...But I must keep on enduring.

It was actually a tumultuous week. I almost blew up at one good friend, another good friend spent most of the week in the hospital and I reconnected with my Ledger Edge, who might have missed our conversations more than I thought.

Overheard on a date (that may have included me):

He says: "No I don't believe in marriage right now."

She says: "Why not?"

He says: "Well I'm not getting married until everyone in America is allowed to get married."

She looks impressed.

He says: "Plus 50% of all marriages end in divorce. People don't respect the deed anymore."

She says: "This is true."

He says: "It's risky. I mean if you found out 50% of cruises ended in fiery death would you pressure your friends to go on cruises?"

She gives blank look.

He loves making ridicule of marriage.

With Kansas losing today my NCAA Brackets officially turned to shit and I lost my predicted champion. On a personal level I'm completely wrapped up in Hoya Paranoia right now as Georgetown's run is truly bringing back childhood memories.

I truly love Georgetown basketball, it's up there with my love affair with the New York Mets. Back when I became a Georgetown fan (Patrick Ewing's freshman year) it was cool to love Georgetown in NYC. They were truly the first team for the urban black community, everyone in the hood loved Georgetown. They were angry, intimidating and they won.

Hell I didn't even known where Georgetown was, I thought it was a neighborhood in Staten Island. All I knew was that they had a black coach who taught an "us against the world" mentality and the coolest starter jacket EVER! It actually makes it more of a pop culture story given the University is actually filled with predominately white, conservative students who were represented in the public eye by a very black, very liberal man who was known to be occasionally threatening and condescending.

Reason #3 of 1,218,372,810 why I love sports. It transcends race and politics.

I was driving home from work on Wednesday and riding down a busy area at 38th street and 9th Avenue. I saw the cars in front of my slowing down and I assumed it was just normal congestion.

Instead there was a man walking in the middle of the passing lane (a very busy passing lane) on 38th. He was crying and holding his hands out.

Needless to say people drove around him.

Meanwhile, I'm not sure what I'll do today before the games. It will be around 80 degrees so maybe a stroll to the Northshore Beach/Vinoy Park is in order. I'm sure I'll see a ton of boaters out in the bay.
