Plus/Minus: Being in Charge
This was my first week of actually being the "sports editor" with the real sports editor on vacation and the assistant sports editor not being interested.
The good side of being the sports editor was that...well I was in charge. That's always cool. More importantly the writers quickly adapted to me and in their hearts they were saying "Yeah, this is cool". Not to brag, but I'm the guy they want to be in charge because I'm really one of them. And I care about the writers, I care about what they think and I care about whether they are happy. Plus I'm not afraid to take chances.
The bad side of being the sports editor was that my boss didn't tell anyone outside of a very chosen few that he was going on vacation. Now that's pretty irresponsible and it made my job more difficult because I couldn't plan. For me organization is always a key, you take my organization with me and I've got nothing.
Speaking of nothing, I had no column because I had no organization. That really pisses me off. I had a great Larry Brown/Knicks column just WAITING to be written and I didn't have the time to pull it off. Next week I guarantee I'll write about this
asshole. And I swear if I could get a hold of that guy I'd put his nuts in one of those mechanical vice grips and turn that SOB over and over and over and over again while he squeals like a pig.
Anyway, another thing the sucked was waking up in the mornings. I don't do mornings. I'm not an 8-5 guy, my best work comes between 2-10 p.m. For those who do mornings, I wonder how, I hate it. I usually go to the exercise room three times a day to take power naps.
But back to the plus side...I AM in charge. And I guess that's worth something. Nonetheless I'm happy the week is over.
