New Decisions...
The non-agenda agenda lunch went fine. No worries at all. My executive editor ended up canceling anyway.
However, just when I thought life would get back to normal another curveball has been thrown my way -- I'm one of the finalists for the assistant sports editor job in Gainesville.
I don't really know how I feel about this one. Everyone's been telling me how great it is and it's a great opportunity. But three things stand out right away.
- Every assistant sports editor job sucks.
- Gainesville's sport department is very single-minded (all Gators all the time)
- There's no pro sports outlet. This is a big thing for me. I'm in an area where I'm 50 miles away from the big three sports plus hockey.
The best thing I can say is that they will need to put together and good pitch and I'll see. I'm definitely not going to completely shut the door on the opportunity. But it's a staff in Gainesville that's very set in their way so there isn't much I can offer from a content standpoint.
At this stage I need to be more aggressive in my own job search because I think my paper is trying to push me out.
