Harry Potter..
...I haven't read the new Harry Potter book, I haven't read the other six either. This has never been a problem in my life, many of my friends haven't read the series and my family probably doesn't even know it exists.
I generally prefer non-fiction or satirical pieces over fictional voyages into mind. That's just me. I never thought of it as a big deal. I have a great amount of respect for J.K. Rowling, I think she's a great story of survival and success. I'd love to read an autobiography on her, something I'm sure many fans of her fictional work would probably ignore since the story is always more exciting than the storyteller.
Still I don't understand when I tell this to people, who have read the series, they look at me like I'm crazy. Like I missed some major revelation in life.
"Oh my god, you've NEVER read Harry Potter!?!?!"
Nope.
I get the same reaction when I say I've never watched an episode of "Friends" and only sparingly watched "Seinfeld". Concerning the former, it never interested me, concerning the latter, I watched "Curb Your Enthusiam" first and anyone who's watched both will tell you that once you see "Curb", "Seinfeld" becomes extremely unfunny and irrelevant.
But back to the land of muggles and wizards, it seems that some people can't except that Harry Potter isn't everyone's taste. Much like wasn't crazy about Lord of the Rings or half the Star Wars episodes.
I also know that it isn't a "kid's" book and I'm all for people discussing literature of any form so the conversation doesn't bother me, just don't get offended when I say I haven't read them and there's a extremely slim chance I ever will.
