The Drive for 35...
...Everyone who knows me knows I LOVE spring training. My goal each spring training season is 14 teams, eight different facilities and usually I hit that number or maybe go one under or one over.
Because of my job and those silly 9-5 requirements, I've been contained to weekend and night games and I'll probably only see five facilities.
*BTW the best spring training parks are in order: Wild World of Sports Complex at Disney (Atlanta); Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland (Detroit); Brighthouse Networks Field in Clearwater (Phillies); Dodgertown in Vero Beach (Dodgers, duh) and Legends Field in Tampa (
Yankees)*.
Anyway, as I'm following the Grapefruit League standings, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, my hometown team, are 1-12. Yes they are really really bad. So I'm calling it right now:
The Rays will go 28-134 this season.
In MLB the default number of victories is 35. If you just suit up with nine guys you are guaranteed 35 victories. It's like making a 200 on the SAT, the league gives you 35 victories for owning a franchise.
The Rays won't make the default.
28-134.
History will be made!
