The Waiting Game
I just overnighted my papers to the Baltimore Sun. I'm cautiously optimistic, I think I'll get an interview and if I get an interview I'm in. That's not to say that I know I'm the best person for the job or anything, I just know that I'm strong at interviews.
Rather than play the waiting game, I'll go to Las Vegas, that's always a nice plan when things get too hot here. I love Las Vegas, I love the atmosphere and excitement. I also enjoy the serenity of the suburbs, the mountains are beautiful, I like the desert feel. It's a little warm, but it's a little warm in Florida.
Back to Baltimore. I need to get back in the game or maybe I need to get into the game period. The papers are just better in the Northeast cities. The baseball coverage is better, the copy is cleaner, the stories are meatier, I want to be part of that atmosphere.
I actually like my job for the most part so it's a win-win. Either I get a better job in Baltimore and build my career or I stay here and build my career. There are certain things I won't be able to do in Baltimore....for now. But I like the idea of putting together a real portfolio and contributing to make undertaking at a major newspaper. I've had a good year, I've won a few awards, I've definitely turned some heads. There's no guarantee I'll be this successful next year so I need to jump in the fire while it's burning.
Next week I'll know something. Maybe they've already found their guy, maybe they aren't interested or maybe they want to know more. It doesn't matter now, I'm just thinking about the craps table.
