Ahhh a Day Off
I did something today I hadn't done in months. Take a day off. In my job days off don't come too easy because I don't have an assistant or anyone that could watch over things while I enjoy time off. I also decided I needed to blog because I should blog every day and not blogging over two weeks is more disappointing than spending $51 million dollars for the rights to sign a baseball player and then going the cheap route when it comes to actually signing said player.
It also gives me a chance to check out the new blogger format. So far...eh? Not sure how much I like it so far.
So I got a chance to ride around my hometown, St. Petersburg a.k.a. "The Sunshine City" and I conjured the following thoughts:
1. St. Petersburg is a beautiful city: It really is. It's the perfect size for the area I want to live in right now. I miss the hustle and flow of NYC and occasionally I miss the small-town homeliness of Gainesville and Lakeland. But I really love St. Pete, it's close to the beach, the sun is always shining and there are tons of things to do, especially in terms of the arts and museums.
2. Where's the free Wi-Fi?: When did people start charging for Wi-Fi again? I hit the downtown Barnes and Noble to catch up on e-mail and it's $3.95 for two hours. Fair enough. I hit the downtown coffee shop for a nice large cup and it's $9.99 for a "Daypass"? What a rip off. There are some hot spots downtown somewhere but after 90 minutes of walking I couldn't find them.
3. I hate working days: One great thing about my old job was the fact that I worked nights and had my days to run errands, walk in the park, do some sight seeing, whatever. Most people would hate working nights but be honest: What happens between 4 p.m. and midnight anyway? Not much.
4. Really bad sports week: First off my rival high school wins its third
state football championship in a row after punking my alma mater in the regional playoffs and then my beloved New York Jets played a total stinker against the Bills. Not sure what happened to Gang Green but I blame the Giants for bringing a losing aura around the Meadowlands.
5. Next vacation: Will be a little longer and it might include a few days...weeks camping through Eastern Europe. Who's coming with!?
